When I went to SRM University, Chennai...

#Chennai
It was my first ever research presentation at SRM University, Kattankulathur, Chennai. Attended some great invited talks of scientist from India, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Best one as I feel was of Dr.Vivek Polshettiwar’s(TIFR,Mumbai) lecture. He is brilliant and has shown some excellent animations in the talk. Best remark was from Prof. D.K.Aswal (CSIR-NPL New Delhi) that, “world is doing research in 4th generation of nanotechnology, but we Indians are still working on 2nd and 3rd generations. Most researchers works on materials synthesis and their characterization but very few of them works on developing the products for the actual market. Few researchers are there who works for conuntry’s benefit, most of them works for the sake of publications.” Had a great time with new and young researchers and get inspired by their work. Made many new friends from different institutes, from different parts of the country. What I felt during my stay at the campus was that, the atmosphere of campus itself is so good that you feel all the positive vibes, you feel motivated. Visited the tribology lab of mechanical department, SRM’s research center and Nanotechnology department. Thanks Mohana Subramaniam (aka Priya) for the tour. Had a nice discussion every night with my roommate Dr. Vipin Kumar from IIT Bombay about all the research works, Indian educational system and little bit of politics.
After interacting with the research students, I came to know some common things about every researchers. Everyone has few or more complaints about their supervisor. (I don’t have any!) Everyone thought of leaving the Ph.D, at least once in their carrier. Everyone is tired of doing the business with administrative departments. Most of them have to do the characterization of other’s samples and Get nothing from it. Everyone faces the highs and lows in Ph.D carrier. So, don’t panic, Carry on and keep moving ahead. Eventually you will find something amazingly interesting.
Thank you Dr. Anjana Kothari and Kinjal Trivedi for the company. Thank you selfie expert Akshay Sonera and Mr.Businesman Akash Thakkar. Marina beach in the early morning was a good choice. Thank you future scientist Nalin Prashant for giving a good company and discussions about the research. Now I know BITS and BIT are two different institutes and you are from BIT.
In the two days train journey, find some amazing co passengers. Thank you Bumb aunty for bhel and Theplas. Thank you Manish Patel (Secretory, Gujarat state Rifle Association) and Patel Rajendra for the food and all the discussion about political history. I wish to join you in your Balaji trip someday. People in India are great. They can make you feel like home in one night journey only.
Note: Most of the Autowallas are same everywhere. Always prefer government public transport or OLA is always a good choice. The benefit of public transport is that, you can interact with local people and can know about their believes and culture. I found Tamil people are so much rooted to their culture, and it is something great about them.
Some observations I made about Japanese scientists is that they speak very less. Though they speak less but their work speaks. The research they do is all directly benefited to the society. All research upto the market applications. They don't waste time. If they are not giving the talk then they will seat somewhere in corner in the conference hall and work on their laptops. It was nice to interacts with them.
At the end it was nice experience, some change from the day to day life. Feeling refreshed!
